Transition Town Kenmore District will be holding a stall at the Moggill Markets on Saturday 1 September. Information will be provided on what Transition Kenmore is, what it is all about, what we try to achieve and how people can benefit from our meetings and network. The stall will also provide a backyard garden products exchange service – so bring along any surplus fruit, veggies or plants from your garden to swap for something else. We would also appreciate donations of backyard produce to sell (by donation) to those without anything to swap.
Please only bring edible or native plants and please make sure the soil is free from fire ants as required by Queensland government regulations – see here.
The stall will also be offering native plants and trees from the Moggill Creek Catchment Group, a local land care group.
Proceeds from sales will go towards printing expenses.
Moggill Markets is a local farmers market held on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month at 550 Brookfield Rd from 6.30am till 11.00am.
Hope to see you there.

Catch Transition Kenmore at the Moggill Markets
Transition Kenmore will be back at the Moggill Markets this Saturday the 3rd of March. We'll be swapping and selling produce from our own gardens and talking about Transition. So feel free to come and say hi.
Some of us at Transition Kenmore fancy ourselves as backyard farmers and so our stall gives us the chance to provide a backyard garden products exchange service and offload surplus mangoes, pumpkins and saplings etc! For any other backyard farmers out there, bring along your surplus fruit and veggies or plants from your garden to swap for something else or sell to those without anything to swap.
If anyone wants to help us promote TTKD by helping man our stall, or if you have some produce from your garden you would like to swap or sell please contact us at: transitionkenmore'at'gmail.com
See you there!

Foodconnect demonstrates the resilience of local food - business essentially unaffected by the floods
Listen to Foodconnect founder and local food visionary Rob Pekin talk on ABC radio about how Foodconnect was able to keep getting it's fresh fruit and veges from farmers to customers (including by boat and canoe when necessary) during the floods.
Pekin explains how the strong connections between local farmer, Foodconnect and local customer give it the agility and resilience to get food to people when the bigger players can't. Just one more reason to like Foodconnect, along with the benefits of getting fresh food from local farmers who receive a fair wage in return.

TTKD Growing Food & Landshare Initiative -plenty of interest so far
Transition Kenmore recently announced the Growing Food & Landshare Initiative where we will match people who have spare land with people who want to grow food.
Interest has been steadily rolling in from people who want to share their land and those who'd like to make use of it. Thanks to everyone who has gotten in touch to date. So if you have been thinking about getting involved but weren't sure if there would be somewhere for you to get your hands dirty, it already looks like that isn't going to be a problem.
Want to get involved? Here's the details again:

Want to get involved? Here's the details again:
TransitionTown: Kenmore District (which covers the Pullenvale Ward) would like to engage with people interested in exploring the possibilities of:
1.Landshare and setting up an online Landshare register
2. Co-ordinating people who are already growing food and have a surplus, no matter how big or small.
3.Co-operatively selling food through the local Moggill Markets in the first instance then onto a wider local food supply network.
______________________________________________________________________________________
Who should register interest?
Anyone interested in growing food.
Anyone with land they are happy for others to use with a written agreement as to the terms of that use.
Gardening Mentors: people in the area who have experience in growing food and are willing to share that knowledge.
Register your interest by sending us an email: transitionkenmore"at"gmail.com

TTKD Growing Food & Landshare Initiative
Growing Food and Landshare Initiative:
Interested in growing food?
Your local Transition Town: Kenmore District group is continuing the process of self-empowerment.
We are launching the Growing Food & Landshare Initiative.
Please share the following information with your email lists, neighbours, friend and family in the area.
Here in the Pullenvale Ward (from Kenmore/Chapel Hill through to Moggill) we are very fortunate to have a mixture of medium density housing through to peri-urban acreages. This diversity creates an opportunity for those without land, or land unsuitable for growing to match with landholders who do not have the time or resources to utilise their land. This synergy can result in a very productive and stronger community.
This idea of matching people keen to grow food to people with available land came to fruition in the U.K . Landshare was launched by KEO films in the UK in 2009 through the River Cottage TV program. The concept is simple: to connect people who wish to grow food with landowners willing to donate spare land for cultivation. Since then it has flourished into a national movement of more than 50,000 people, sharing more than 3,000 acres of land, with matches in every region of the UK.

The Moggill Markets - Bringing farm fresh produce to the western suburbs
Maybe it's just me, but there seems to be a growing number of people interested in buying fresh, locally grown fruit and veges these days. For those of us who live on the west side of town, the Moggill Markets allow us to do just that.
Run fortnightly the Moggill Markets provide an authentic farmers' market which is closer by and less like being in a sardine can than at other popular markets such as at West End.

The Moggill Markets focus solely on food with a large number of stalls selling fresh fruit and veges as well as cheeses, meat, fish, yoghurt, breads etc.
In our experience the stallholders are friendly and happy to have a chat about their wares, give tips on how best to keep the food and help you pick out the best produce.
If you're hungry you can also grab something to eat at one of the food stalls.
The markets are located at Moggill State School and easy to get to, just a minutes walk from the 444 bus stop and with parking available if you drive.
The markets are run as a not-for-profit with the organizers donating all proceeds to the local school. Waste is also kept to a minimum as vege scraps are composted by the children at the school as part of their school garden.
Next market day is this Saturday the 21st of November. For more information see the Moggill Markets website.
